Well known Carnatic exponent Surmani K.S. Vasantha Lakshmi is an internationally renouned Carnatic vocalist of AIR/DD, New Delhi, is a disciple of Late Shri M. S. Balasubrahmanya Sharma. She is the recipient of President’s Award in the All India Radio Competitions and of “Surmani” title from the Sur Singar Samsad, Maharashtra. She is an empaneled Singer in the ICCR since 1993. Along with many international performances, she has the unique distinction of performing at the St. Paul’s Cathedral, London, on occasion of the Centenary Celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi, in the presence of dignitaries like Lord Mountbatten, the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Indian High Commissioner.

She is actively working in the area of Music Therapy for the last few years and has presented papers at the 4th, 5th and 6th International Conference on Music Therapy organized in Andhra University, Bangalore University and last year in Delhi (AIIMS & YWCA) by Nada Centre were all very well appreciated. She is running a Carnatic Music school in Gurgaon in the Gurukul tradition and rendering yeoman services in the area of Music and Music Therapy in the National Capital Region of India. She is also the author of a few books on Music Therapy, South Indian Music and Music Therapy Standards in India.
